Eco-Rating Method
Our “Eco-Score” Methodology
Current Standard: 2026 EU Green Claims Directive (ECGT) & ISO 14044 Compliant
To maintain “Gold Standard” integrity, TheIdealPrice.com utilizes a multi-factor forensic audit to assign each product an Eco-Score from $0$ to $100$. We do not accept generic marketing terms like “natural” or “eco-friendly” without primary source verification.
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Framework
Our algorithm evaluates the environmental impact across five “Cradle-to-Grave” stages:
- Raw Material Sourcing: Prioritizing GOTS-certified organic textiles, FSC-certified wood, and recycled-content plastics ($>30\%$).
- Manufacturing Efficiency: Evaluation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions data from manufacturer disclosures (CDP 2026 A-List status).
- Logistics & Distribution: Weighted for carbon-neutral shipping and low-impact packaging (compostable or post-consumer waste).
- Usage Phase: Energy efficiency ratings (Energy Star / EU Class A) and water consumption metrics.
- End-of-Life: Quantitative repairability scores and documented circularity (recyclability/biodegradability).
- The Forensic Weighting Formula
We apply a weighted average to generate the final score, ensuring no single “green” feature masks a poor overall record (Anti-Greenwashing Protocol).
$$EcoScore = (M \times 0.35) + (L \times 0.25) + (U \times 0.20) + (E \times 0.20)$$
Where:
- $M = \text{Material \& Manufacturing Integrity}$
- $L = \text{Logistics \& Packaging Impact}$
- $U = \text{Utility \& Resource Efficiency}$
- $E = \text{End-of-Life Circularity}$
- Verification Gating
- Primary Data: We prioritize Digital Product Passports (DPP) and 3rd-party certifications (B Corp, Fair Trade, OEKO-TEX®).
- Silver Standard Warning: If a product relies on self-reported data without independent verification, its score is capped at 50 regardless of claims.
- Offset Policy: Per 2026 regulations, carbon offsets are excluded from the core Eco-Score calculation to ensure the score reflects actual lifecycle impact, not just financial compensation.
Anti-Greenwashing & Data Integrity Disclaimer
Standard: 2026 FTC Green Guides & EU Green Claims Directive (GCD)
The following disclaimer is a “Forensic Guardrail” for TheIdealPrice.com. It protects your platform from liability if a manufacturer provides false environmental data that our algorithm processes into an Eco-Score.
Greenwashing & Third-Party Data Disclaimer
- Data Limitation (The “WHAT”) The environmental metrics and “Eco-Scores” displayed on TheIdealPrice.com are generated using a proprietary weighted algorithm. This algorithm relies on 1st-party manufacturer disclosures, third-party certifications (e.g., GOTS, Energy Star), and public Digital Product Passports (DPP).
- Independent Verification (The “WHY”) While we prioritize Gold Standard primary sources, TheIdealPrice.com does not perform independent laboratory testing on physical products. We act as a data aggregator and forensic analyst. We cannot guarantee that a manufacturer’s self-reported data is 100% free of “Greenwashing”—the practice of making misleading environmental claims.
- Liability Limitation (The “HOW”) By using this site, you acknowledge that:
- TheIdealPrice.com is not responsible for the accuracy of environmental claims made by third-party retailers or brands.
- An “Eco-Score” is an analytical estimate of sustainability based on available data, not a legal certification of a product’s impact.
- We reserve the right to manually downgrade or “Blacklist” any brand found by regulatory bodies (FTC, CMA, or EU Commission) to be engaging in deceptive green marketing.
